Playford Hotel

A return to Nouveau glamour

Located in Adelaide’s cultural precinct and notionally anchored in the Art Nouveau style, The Playford Hotel lacked a single, unifying design approach. Hachem reinvigorated a tired interior with a modern take on Art Nouveau, uniquely depicted through a lens of South Australian art, exquisite décor and elegant materials.

A strong, consistent design language has returned a sense of place to this iconic hotel, which is now set to appeal to the next generation of travellers and guests.

The lobby experience

A monochromatic palette expresses a contemporary version of Art Nouveau in the hotel entry. Furniture and sculpture articulate the feminine, organic forms of the movement, while walls and flooring reconnect to the period by employing flowing, natural shapes.

The entry experience provides a crucial counterpoint to the relentlessly angular and characterless urban buildings that surround it. This is design that nourishes the soul and captures the essence of a movement that embodies warmth, style and elegance.

The guest experience

Materials of brass, leather and stone make no compromise on style in the standard rooms. In the suite, a pop of dusty pink, additional wall panelling detail, upgraded fittings and a larger footprint underline the step up in luxury.

Exquisite details and high ceilings are hallmarks of the loft rooms. The colour palette moves into sophisticated shades of green encompassing emerald, sage and olive. Influences are taken from lavish master suites of the Art Nouveau era, with stylish materials and finishes creating a captivating and seductive private space.
